Is it likely to snow in Aachen, Germany in december?
Q. I am going to a christmas market in Aachen from 11-13 of december and was wondering if it was going to snow there as we dont get much snow in England and i love snow !!!

A. It could. We've got snow right now and we've just been to Aachen (we live about 40 minutes away), but it's melting. It will definitely be chilly, and snow has been known to fall at that time of year, but you just never know.

Does anyone know of any craft stores in/around Aachen Germany or Sittard NL?
Q. I am specifically looking for ribbon (grosgrain, sheer, satin), glitter, glue, fabric, acrylic rhinestones, etc.
Asked by Tricia G - Wed Aug 29 16:13:57 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. For Aachen, try Listmann (near the main Mayersche) and the co-op store near Karman Auditorium. You should check out the fabric shop in Gross Koelnstrasse, just opposite Mueller, they are moving and have all their stuff on sale. (but I think only until the end of this month). Maybe you can even find some cheap wool in Kaufhof or in one of the 1 shops at the end of Adalbertstrasse close to Kaiserplatz, they have about everything (at least sometimes). Or you could still check out one of the fleamarkets, there s an indoor one every saturday in Liebigstrasse and I think every sunday there s one somewhere (just google Melan and they have all the dates on their page).

A. Normally the big cities are very expensive (Muenich, Hamburg...). I recommend you Heidelberg and Freiburg, they have excellents universities, are beautiful cities, the people are super nice, and you can find a place to live accord to your needs. But you have too the possibility to share a departement with other students: Here Heidelbergs newspaper : Here to find a room: There are grocery stores, which are super cheap and offer good quality:

what is the difference between TH tecknische hochschule and TU technishce universitaet in Germany?

A. Afaik there is no difference between TH and TU. Over the last decades most THs have been renamed TUs, only very few still keep the name Technische Hochschule, mostly out of tradition, I assume. However there is a difference between TUs and Universitaeten.TUs are not allowed to teach all subjects. For example law, medical science, history etc. may only be taught at a Universitaet. Also, a Universitaet has slightly higher requirements for enrolling.

Who knows any good tips for sleeping on coaches/buses?
Q. In December I'm going to the christmas markets in Aachen, Germany, with my school, and the bus drive takes 10 hours each way, so I will be on the bus for 20/30 hours altogether. But I'm not very good at sleeping whilst travelling or sleeping when there is a lot of people around me. Any tips?

A. I like an aisle seat unless it's on the way to the bathroom. A window seat and a small pillow let you slump against the window , and some people swear by a lap blanket. No constricting clothing, and a second pair of socks lets you remove your shoes. All this stuff will fit into a smallish bag. I read myself to sleep, and if you want a guarantee, try reading Numbers or Deuteronomy from the Old Testament--by far the most boring reading ever.

A. The area-code you're referring to matches with the city of schleiden. (Nordrhein Westfalen/ Germany) There are several Catholic churches in Schleiden and villages nearby. For services look outside the church, there are signs telling you when services are held. For information: Kath. Pfarrkirche u. Pfarramt Schleiden Telefon: 02445 - 3218 --- Kath. A. Well, Aachen is up around Netherlands and Belgium. Karlsruhe is closer to Switzerland. Aachen is closer to France. Karlsruhe is better to for heading into Eastern Europe. By default, Karlsruhe is better access to other German cities because Aachen is near, if not on, the border by Belgium and Netherlands.

Have you ever been afflicted by Choreomania?
Q. Dancing mania (or choreomania, from the Greek: (khoreia = 'dance') + (mania = 'madness ) was a social phenomenon that occurred primarily in mainland Europe between the 14th and 18th centuries; it involved groups of people, sometimes thousands at a time, who danced uncontrollably and bizarrely, seemingly possessed by the devil. Cat adoption in Germany?
Q. I want to adopt a Kitten. Near Dusseldorf (Koeln, Bonn, Aachen)
Asked by Yow Joo - Sat Apr 22 17:39:14 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Try Tierschutzverein which is basically a shelter. They have plenty of cats, especially now that the bird flu is over there. My mother told me (she lives in Germany) that everybody is turning in thei cats because they cannot be outside anymore and they don't want them in the house. Anyway, try that or Sperrmuell, which is a paper. They have ads in there. That's how I got my cat (also in Germany ;) ). Anyway, good luck.

A. I lived in Germany for 3 years. They call the Christmas market the Kris Kringle Mart and they sell the typical things like warm hats and Christmas decorations. Buy a wooden nutcracker because the same thing would cost you a great deat more in the USA. The food seems extra good especially eating it in the cold outdoors. Just about everybody speaks english and will want to practice on an American. If you ask, "Do you speak english" they will probably say "just a little" when they actually speak as good as you. There is no drinking age but it's not likely your school will let you take advantage of that. It will be a fantastic experience! Enjoy!!
