What are good books for learning graphic arts?
Q. I was interested in using my creativity and possibly learning graphic arts concentrated on web developing. What are some good books to learn about graphic arts, art, and web design?

A. Meggs, History of Graphic Design Landa, Graphic Design Solutions, also Advertising by Design Carter, Day and Meggs, Typographic Design Clair, Busic-Snyder, A Typographic Workbook Samara, Making and Breaking the Grid Those books will all give you a good grounding in graphic design, typography and the history of Graphic design. These are the foundations for being a graphic designer. The software is secondary; once you've studied design concepts, then progress to the software, and web design. If you are going to learn web design, although you can use software that handles the code for you, it's a good idea to get at least a basic grounding in HTML, XHTML and CSS.

What's the difference between culinary arts and baking?
Q. I really like making cakes and things, and I want a future that involves that. I looked at some University things and was wondering what the difference between baking and culinary arts is, like, isn't culinary arts just food in general? And which one is more successful in the world? Do bakers get paid more than cooks? And is there a chance to travel?

A. basically culinary arts involves cooking, not baking. you should take a pastry course if you want to learn more about cake making, and baking in general. as for salary, it kind of depends on how good you are and where you live, and the travel opportunities...that's kind of up to you

What type of Martial arts should I start taking classes in?
Q. I prefer a type that is strictly self-defense. I have taken classes in TaiChi before, but I would like to practice something that is a little more "physically energetic" so to speak. However, I have heard that TaiChi is the Grandmaster of Martial Arts. Is this true? I am looking for something that has a "philisophy" as well as a physical discipline. I do find Aikido very interesting. I guess what I would be looking for would be a "soft" style?

A. freesyle karate would be the most practicle self defence,you will learn stand up,ground/grappling and weapons while still maintaining tradition,philosophy and physical disipline.
