Does anyone know a good 19th century thesaurus or thesaurus site?
Q. I'm looking for a thesaurus or reference site that might have information on what current day things might've been called in the past, particularly in the Victorian era. Every day things like reporter, camera, kitchen. Can anyone think of any?

A. Not many English words have changed all that much in 100 years. A camera was a camera, a reporter was a reporter or a journalist, and a kitchen was a kitchen. However, because of the changes in technology there are a lot of words from the Victorian era that are no longer commonly used today, such as button hook, rimmer, bustle, and so forth. There are a few things that have parallels but have changed due to technology: an ice box was a refrigerator, an out house was a bathroom, a gas light was an electric light - fire place = furnace, stuff like that.

A. You can edit the language settings to read English (Australian) by navigating through the following steps: Go to START > programs > microsoft office > microsoft office tools > microsoft office language settings 2007 In the Editing Languages box click on English (Australia).
